Metropolitan Museum of Art: Jeff Koons on the Roof

Currently on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, a special rooftop exhibition features sculptures by American artist Jeff Koons. Three of his artworks are on display, never before seen in public, until October 26 2008. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a few hours on a rooftop to see beautiful views of Manhattan skyline and Central Park. I specifically wanted to come see his artwork because I always wondered what a 20 feet balloon dog would look like....

My immediate reaction to the exhibit was 'wow, this rooftop is very small' and 'I could see everything in 5 seconds if it wasn't for the crowd of people standing in line for $7 dollar Coronas.' That basically summed it up. Brooklyn brewed beers were available in addition to bottled water and cocktails. So it made for a nice Happy Hour for those that wanted to enjoy some sun and drinks in a cultured environment.

And since we were already at the MET, we decided to check out the other special exhibits. The first is the Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibit. Sadly no photos were allowed but it's movie costumes and avante garde couture by Armani and Gucci. Most notable costumes were Superman, Spider-man, Batman and the X-men movie characters. The second special exhibit featured paintings and watercolors by J. M. W. Turner. Sadly, we were too tired to appreciate the artwork.

In closing, here's a pic of the view from the rooftop of the MET.
